United States Code

The United States Code is a consolidation and codification by subject matter of the general and permanent laws of the United States. It is prepared by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel of the United States House of Representatives.

Maryland Courts

The Maryland court system has four levels: two trial courts and two appellate courts. The trial courts consider evidence presented in a case and make judgments based on the facts, the law and legal precedent (prior legal decisions from a higher court). Appellate courts review a trial court’s actions and decisions and decide whether the trial judge properly followed the law and legal precedent.

The People’s Law Library (PLL) is a legal information and self help website maintained by the Maryland State Law Library and supported by Maryland’s non profit legal services providers.

University of MD Law School

The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law was established in 1816 and began regular instruction in 1824. It is the third-oldest law school in the nation, but its innovative programs make it one of the liveliest and most dynamic today. UM Carey Law stands among five other professional schools on the Founding Campus of the University of Maryland.

Trademark & Copyright Law

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is the federal agency for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks. In doing this, the USPTO fulfills the mandate of Article I, Section 8, Clause 8, of the Constitution that the legislative branch “promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries.”

Tulane Law Review

The Tulane Law Review is a student-managed and student-edited legal journal. The Review has consistently published authoritative legal works while also training its members in legal writing and editing.
